With a monotone palette the work strips painting back to basics and puts an acute focus on the intricacies of the medium. Solid, confident brushwork creates an inviting depth that tempts the viewer through a window to another world, a world riddled with a surreal mix of truth and the absurd. Unnatural collisions of the beautiful and the awe-inspiring create pHantasy landscapes onto which humorous narratives are loosely thread.
Collaged reflective material adds an intriguing second dimension. Its precious appearance naturally sows seeds of desire in the mind. It also offers subtle, disjointed reflections of the viewer themselves, thus involving them both physically and mentally.
The result are paintings of nonsensical realities that through techniques of collage, reflection and suggestion become very real. The paintings are awoken when viewed and proceed to lure and urge the viewer to take that step out of their world and into the next.
